A scalable underwater sensor for dissolved inorganic carbon

Department: Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering

Project Summary:

This project addresses a critical gap in ocean carbon monitoring by developing a low-cost, low-power, and scalable in situ sensor for measuring dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC). The team will design and test multiple sensor architectures to produce a benchtop “proof-of-concept” sensor for submersible ocean applications. Results from this work will support future funding to build and field-test a fully submersible, commercial-ready version, to advance volumetric DIC sensing in the ocean.
